AARP Policy Program: Presentation Series 1

AARP Policy Program: Presentation Series 1

North Carolina is rapidly aging. By 2025, one in five North Carolinians will be 65 and over. As of 2019, the state already had more people 60 and over than under 18. In this first session, presenters discussed the impact of drivers of health on people over 50, from access to healthy food to social support and housing. Content focused on drivers for aging well, including connection to and engagement in the community, aging at home (in accessible, affordable accommodations), a well-trained caregiving workforce, and a person- and family-centered approach to care. A NC DHHS representative examined the impact of COVID-19 on older adults in North Carolina, including the impact on service delivery to that population.
